St. Kizito's Hospital

STACC has supported the cost of running the Children’s Ward at St Kizito's Hospital, Matany, in the North-east of the country since 2003. The ward admits around 6,000 patients annually. STACC provides up to 40% of the running costs, including staff wages, medicines, laundry and other supplies. There is a busy outpatient department for children, and community outreach activities in remote areas. The hospital seeks to provide additional nutrients for local children and in support of this programme STACC has sent funds to cover the cost of a vegetable garden and the purchase of a small flock of goats for a supply of much needed milk.
The main diseases treated are malaria, upper respiratory tract infections and intestinal disorders. In addition, nutritional problems amongst young children are a continuing challenge.
There has been a Nursing School at St Kizito’s Hospital since 1984.  Read more about Matany School of Nursing and Midwifery.
